Beat blisters with butter, olive oil and potato juice.

We love new shoes.

But we don't love having to suffer through the breaking-in period. Nothing ruins the thrill of wearing fresh-out-of-the-box heels like a blister.

AtVivian Lou, we are all about preventing pain so we’ve gathered some at-home remedies to help you prevent the new shoes blues.

Moisturize your feet with these simple ingredients to make your skin soft and supple preventing painful rubbing and blisters.

:: Butter
Butter is touted as one of the best home remedies to prevent blisters. The night before wearing new shoes, simply apply a layer of butter over blister-prone areas - like the heel, the sides of the forefoot, and toes. Cover your feet with socks and leave on over night. The next morning, wash your feet with warm water, and wear your new shoes sans blisters. If you don’t want to use butter, substitute with coconut oil.

:: Olive Oil
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil and massage into your foot. Apply the oil in circular motion to soften areas prone to blisters. Wipe your foot dry before wearing your new shoes. Be careful! Your feet may be a bit slippery!

:: Potato Juice
Rub a fresh piece of potato over areas prone to blisters. The juice not only softens the skin, it is known to also reduce inflammation and treat foot corns as well.

If you are serious about preventing high heel pain, be sure to addVivian Lou Weight-Shifting Inner Soles for High Heels to your new wedges, espadrilles, peep-toes and sandals. Not only do they shift weight off the forefoot, they prevent the foot from slipping forward which helps stop those pesky toe blisters.

Here’s to pain-free new shoes!
