In September, I flew to NYC to pitch Vivian Lou Insolia Weight-Shifting insoles to Rachel Shechtman - founder and owner of STORY
- a retail space in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood that has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store
. It was an absolutely incredible experience
I found out later that month that Vivian Lou Insolia Weight-Shifting insoles were selected to appear in the Home for the Holidays
story, which launched in November.
So when my family and I planned our annual December jaunt to the Big Apple, first on my list of things to do was to visit STORY and see Vivian Lou Insolia Weight-Shifting insoles
on the shelves of this amazing concept store.
And yesterday was the day!
We headed into the city, and I couldn't get the family to move fast enough! Between Metro North and the subway, it took us 90 minutes to get to NYC's Chelsea neighborhood.
As I opened the door to STORY, all of the anxiety from Pitch Night
came rushing back.
But the security guard kindly smiled as we walked in. One of the STORY team members joyfully welcomed us into the store. And the customers (of which there were many even though the store had only opened 30 minutes prior to our arriving) casually browsed the thousands of unique items showcased throughout the store.
After I calmed my nerves, the search was on. We started looking for the insoles.
When my six-year old son spotted them on a shelf next to the glowing fireplace, he yelled "Mom! These are yours!"
There they were! Small, but mighty!
What an incredible honor to be featured among the other creative, extraordinary and inspiring products featured in this story.
We visited every corner, looked at every shelf and table, found a few items to purchase, and headed back to look at 'my' shelf.
And who happened to be standing right in front of Vivian Lou Insolia Weight-Shifting insoles...but Rachel Shechtman!
I walked up to her and reintroduced myself. She was so gracious and told me how much people loved the insoles (they've already sold out once!). We chatted about fellow Pitch Night attendees. She introduced me to her sister and her parents (who just happened to be at the store). She gave the kids some temporary tattoos. We laughed. We high-fived. She told me that Vivian Lou Insolia Weight-Shifting insoles are going to be featured in the next story. And that she was going to make a little sign to place alongside the insoles to help tell the product story.
And then she disappeared.
I thought she was called away to tend to a customer. So we bought our items. Put on our coats and hats. And left the store to brave the windy (but sunny) day.
We were just about to cross 10th Avenue when Rachel came running down the street yelling, "Abby! Wait! Wait! I want to show you this sign."
Laughing, we all headed back into the store so I could take some additional pictures of the insoles with this amazing little sign.
While this trip to STORY was much different than my first
, it was no less magical!
Thank you, Rachel and STORY!
